Ripe juicy, elastic fruits, crimson, like oxygen-depleted blood, serve in remote areas as a symbol of a talisman against evil forces. “There is no orchard near the house, so devils walk there,” my grandmother said. Or, just at a conscious age, I understood my grandmother's saying: “Until the leaf falls from the cherry tree, no matter how much snow falls, the thaw will drive it away.”
Whatever fables people come up with in their short history, for me cherries are dusty village roads, leaning rafts of village houses.
