The painting depicts bright, attractive mussels, the favorite food of many. A research team at the University of Davis, when sampling blue mussels in six places along the coasts of France, Belgium and the Netherlands, found the presence of microplastics in 100% of the samples. They concluded, “If you go mussels, you're eating plastic.” The author suggests thinking about what led to this result, how it affects our lives.
