Icon “Our Lady of Odigitria”, handmade

Odigitria is one of the most common types in Orthodox iconography of the depiction of Our Lady with the Child Christ. According to legend, the first image of Our Lady Odigitria was written by the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke. “Our Lady of Odigitria”, also it is called “Hilandar Akathisti” - Serbian Orthodox icon of 1260-1270, kept in the sacristy of Hilandar Monastery on Saint Mount Athos, in Greece, where (possibly) came from Byzantium. It is an icon decoration of the kafolikon (the main temple of the monastery). Embroidered “Virgin” of a special, unique design from Thea Gouverneur. Design repeating the original, where even vertical scuffs completely coincide, before which it is impossible not to stop. The icon of the Mother of God “Odigitria” is amazing, touching, radiant. It literally flows calm and tranquility. The look of Our Lady is impressive — he is sad at the knowledge of Christ's future suffering. The Lord looks with love and attention. The image belongs to one of the varieties of the iconographic type of the Virgin of Odigitria (Guidebooks). This variety is Greek called “Dexiocratus” (“Right-handed”), as the Infant Christ sits on the right hand of the Blessed Virgin. Although the icon is seriously damaged, its artistic value is recognized. Frame: oklaad + frame (slag metal with imitation of aged bronze). Glass: anti-glare.
