The virus that causes COVID-19 is transmitted predominantly through drops released from the respiratory tract of an infected person when coughing, sneezing or breathing. Because of their mass, these droplets do not linger for long in the air and settle quickly on the floor and other surfaces. It is possible to contract the virus by airdrip while in close proximity to someone with COVID-19, or by transferring the virus by hands from infected surface to mucous membranes eyes, nose, or mouth.
