I think it's funny that just at a time when your mind gradually “washes away” and turns into a black screen, you can just dot the paper for hours: this is pretty close to minor man-made tasks such as knitting, embroidering, washing dishes or cleaning.
Washing dishes saved me, no matter what. After a short period of part-time work in catering, I noticed how, in a situation of not wanting to take responsibility for anything, I immediately ran away to wash dishes. The repetitive monotonous cycle is always safe, predictable and creates the illusion of usefulness/employment.
