Christmas carols are the biggest and most significant Slavic winter festival in pre-Christian times. It started at the solstice and lasted for several days. These days, people dressed up, put on animal skins and masks, sang carol songs, went home and wished each other happiness, health and a good year, and in return they were thanked with treats. The eight-pointed star is an integral symbol of Kolyad. It symbolizes the “reborn” sun, as well as the Star of Bethlehem. This is a sign of goodness, life and prosperity. With my work, I want to remind you of this wonderful tradition of our people.
