“Prima ballerina”

“Prima Ballerina” was painted by me in Goa, India, during my 9 years of trips to the Indian subcontinent. Prima is a little girl selling beads, bracelets and bedspreads. We met her on the beach. She disarmed with her unique kind smile, unobtrusiveness and tolerable knowledge of Russian expressions like “buy an elephant,” “what's your name,” “then and then, cat soup.” We became friends. Every year they brought her chocolates, candies, etc. Originally from Karnataka, she came to Goa for the season of work. I painted a portrait of her once. She was happy.
