artport gallery
Without frame
size: 42x21x19 cm
Materials: Bronze, stone
Kind: Sculpture
Style: Symbolism
Genre: Mythologic
The source for this sculpture was the Indonesian and Balinese sacred dance Rangda. Rangda is a mythological figure associated with Durga, a Hindu woman. Kali. She is the queen of witches and demons, but her mask is revered in village temples as a patron and protector from evil. Rangda dancers fall into a trance during the performance; their movements are intentionally nervous in spasms. This dance is reminiscent of shaman dances performed in the sculptor's homeland, Mongolia.
