The painting symbolizes an endless series of events that lead to spiritual and physical rebirth. The human psyche, regardless of social status, protects us from everything new, so any changes come with pain. Pain is presented as long, red threads that fall down and leave behind a graphic, chiseled trail. The elements of the Gothic cathedral support the idea that even fundamental things can be modified by modern influences of any nature, whether spiritual — color, or physical — distortion of perspective.
