The feeling of eternal spring and eternal celebration did not leave me when I stayed with Lawrence, an Indian Christian. Every Sunday he wore a suit to mass. He invited me to his cabin for his birthday. Kind person. The wind rocked coconuts on the tall old palm trees above his house. And I thought about the eternal, and how great it would be to be a gray-haired old man in my eighties, sitting in Lorenz's yard, smoking bidis and looking up into eternity.
