I decided to draw this unusual bird sitting on a forest branch. You can see the small strokes of pastel pencils that accentuate each feather. With love and attention, I drew the bird's tail as well. Which serves woodpeckers not so much as a rudder when flying, but as a support while crawling through the tree. This bird rests on it so diligently that in a year of life the tail erases to about 10% of its original length. With pastel crayons I conveyed the character and mood of the painting, thoughtful
and contemplative.
