Already in Egypt in a number of papyri and ostracons cats are presented in satirical images. For example, the Satirical Papyrus of the Ramesid era (ca. 1150 BC) depicts a cat grazing geese, mice storming a fortress cats. They may refer to proverbs or stories lost today, but understood by the ancient Egyptian, or contain political or religious satire. Similar scenes are repeated on some discovered ostracons, vessels, cosmetics and figurines of the New Kingdom.
