The entire composition is inside the moon. Its upper layer seems to be wiped off in the shady area, and we can see the interior of the room with the bed on which the girl sleeps. A cat lying next to each other watches mice that crawl across the moon's cheese-like surface. It is the mice and the moon that are real in the picture and therefore are more textured, and everything else is a reflection and is executed in a smooth manner with stylization. This creates a contrast from the smooth and textured parts of the picture.
