Gondolin Gondolin (sindh. Gondolin), also Ondolin (sq. Ondolindë) was a secret town of elves of the Noldor people, built by Turgon in the First Era. Originally named Ondolinde (sq. Ondolindë, “Rock of Music of Waters” — after springs on Amon Gvaret), on Sindarin he was given the name Gondolin (Gondolin, “Hidden Rock”). The story about the fall of Gondolin, set in late 1916, is Tolkien's first completed essay on Ea; it is also the first work to see the world of Tolkien since it was read by the author at Exeter College Literary Club in 1918.
