A brahman cannot be defined in any affirmative way, but can only be characterized by negation—he is infinite, unchanging, immobile. The Atman is an eternal, unchanging spiritual entity, an absolute who is aware of his own existence. The term is used to describe the higher self of man and all living entities. After “awakening” one realizes himself as “Atma” (True Self)
