The gray partridge is a secretive bird that lives in fields and thickets of bushes. It nests on the ground, often among crops, laying eggs in a hole under a bush or hummock. Partridges can be found on the outskirts of large cities, where there were fields until recently.
Due to human agricultural activities, birds are deprived of their usual habitats and nesting grounds. When cultivating the soil, nests on the ground are destroyed, and chicks die. Fertilizers and pesticides kill insects that feed on birds. The number of rodents, the main prey of many birds of prey, is decreasing.
